Let's shed light on Perinatal Trauma
Perinatal Trauma is defined as distress experienced by the mother and/or baby during pregnancy, labor, delivery, or postpartum
This can also include anything that is distressing relating to trying to conceive.
Perinatal Trauma can be psychological, physical (including injury to the baby, mother, or both), and/or emotional distress
If you have negative feelings towards your baby's birth you may have experienced birth trauma.
Perinatal Trauma can disrupt bonding with your baby.
As many as 2 in 3 women label their birth as traumatic.
The light after Perinatal Trauma is, it does get better with proper support and treatment!

Postpartum Endometritis
An infection of the lining of the uterus (the endometrium)
Can occur up to 6 weeks after giving birth
Group B & Staph are the most common culprits of the infections
Treatment includes re-admittance to the hospital and IV antibiotics

Amniotic Fluid Embolism (AFE)
An allergic-like reaction to the amniotic fluid when it enters the mother's bloodstream (a normal part of pregnancy)
Approximately 1 in 40,000 pregnancies in the United States & 1 in 53,000 pregnancies in the United Kingdom
Approximately 20%-60% of mothers survive
Approximately 60%-70% of babies survive
AFE is the leading cause of maternal death globally
